How does the Covid-19 pandemic promote digital transformation?

According to the top leader of the Ministry of Information and Communications, this is an opportunity for Vietnam to quickly do digital transformation. Because the Covid-19 epidemic is spread by contact, while digital technology minimizes direct contact.

Minister of Information and Communications (TT & TT) Nguyen Manh Hung said that the Covid-19 epidemic poses many challenges for businesses, but challenges always go hand in hand with opportunities, if business owners have a positive perspective. pole. According to the head of the Ministry of Information and Communications, this is an opportunity for Vietnam to accelerate digital transformation. Because the Covid-19 epidemic is spread by contact, while digital technology minimizes direct contact.

“Digital technology solves problems quickly, reacts quickly, adapts quickly and creates quickly. The State, businesses and society should invest more and more strongly in digital technology at this very moment.” Mr. Hung commented. Therefore, leaders of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that digital transformation is to change the way of working, automate and everything to the digital environment. This is an opportunity, because if it is normal, Vietnamese businesses will convert digitally very slowly.

“Vietnam has a very good position in the digital world. You can look at the media penetration of mobile phones. If you look at the Vietnamese market, the ratio is 1 in 1.5. , which means each person has more than 1 mobile phone. If compared to the world, the ratio is only 1 in 2/3, Vietnam is definitely in a good position, a lot of people are using it. social media and growing numbers. You’ll find that Vietnam is in a good position to benefit from digitalisation right now,” said Mr. Erich Gerber – Senior Vice President of Sales TIBCO’s international assessment.

According to Mr. Erich Gerber, Vietnam has the advantage that it does not suffer from pressure and great losses due to having to switch from the old model and old technology like other countries with early industrial development. Currently, information technology companies, technology infrastructure and technology usage rate in Vietnam are growing very fast.

In addition, Vietnam also has young, intelligent, inquisitive, creative and ambitious human resources. This will be the core force for the construction and development of the country. With those advantages, the digital transformation process in Vietnam is attracting the attention of the Government, businesses and people.

In the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic, Mr. Truong Gia Binh, Chairman of FPT Corporation, said that businesses either transform digitally or die.
“Humanity is entering a new revolution, artificial intelligence and big data are gradually replacing the function that humans have been doing for so long. The real world gives birth to the virtual world, and the virtual world will be born. In the real world, each citizen becomes a digital business, changing the way we communicate, the way we live,” Binh said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh – Chairman of the Board of Directors of NextTech Group, digital transformation is sometimes a daily task, such as using software to manage documents, manage tasks, use Zalo to chat or use an application to assignment – it’s digital transformation.

Mr. Binh likens digital transformation in many Vietnamese businesses to releasing a frog into a pot of cold water. Initially, the water was cold, the frog did not react at all. Later, the pot of water became hotter and hotter, and by the time the water boiled, it was too late.
“Many business owners have realized the problem that needs to be digital transformation. But because of struggling, or being subjective, the current time is not really determined, so it is easy to fall into the case of the other frog. Because only 5- 5 In 10 years, when the business feels “hot”, it will become a boiled frog dish at this time”, the NextTech leader shared.

Worldwide, 1.3 trillion USD was spent on digital transformation in 2018, but up to 70% failed and did not bring any positive changes, 30% could see results, and only 16% were rated as successful. This number is certainly not better in the Vietnamese market.

Businesses all see opportunities for digital transformation, but doing so is not easy. IDC’s survey shows that in 2018, 90% of surveyed businesses have started to implement digital transformation with different steps from research, research to implementation. More than 30% of business leaders surveyed consider digital transformation as a matter of business survival.

Vietnam Software and Information Technology Services Association (VINASA), the 3 fastest digital transformation fields in Vietnam include: IT with a readiness level of up to 77.3%. Followed by finance, banking (69.3%) and e-commerce (65.5%)

As of the end of 2018, nearly 70% of Vietnamese people are using the Internet. According to statistics of Miniwatts Marketing, Vietnam is currently ranked 13th in the group of 20 countries with the largest number of Internet users in the world.
Vietnam ranks 25th out of 39 in the list of countries studied with the highest percentage of people owning smartphones in the total population in the world, leading in Southeast Asia.
At the same time, Viet Nam is also a country with the highest increase in the number of smartphone users in the world with a growth rate of about 18% (period 2015-2019). This is considered an advantage of Vietnam in the digital transformation process.
